About StepFit
Purpose and audience
StepFit helps people using stairs at home, work or in public buildings estimate calories and total vertical ascent. No account, activity tracker or payment is required.
Method and illustration
Enter body weight, stair count and riser height. Total rise = steps × riser height in metres. Estimated gross energy (kcal) = 8.8 × weight (kg) × total rise (m) ÷ 540, assuming a vertical speed of 9 m/min. The illustration displays calculated dimensions but is not a scale model of your stairs.
Scope and limitations
The guide, examples and FAQ explain the model. Pace, breaks, fitness and measurement errors affect real energy use. This tool covers ascent on real stairs, not descent or gym stair machines; it cannot predict weight loss or assess medical fitness.
